...not to do something, it becomes the one thing above all others that one most wishes to do.” (Silvers and Lotus in Oathknights)

And there is a shift in reality. Time doesn't slow down, but its perception goes as fast as one needs to to take in the scene. The stench of cheap alcohol appears to become the scent of fine wine. The sound of the explosion becomes something to be admired, like the roar of a waterfall. And all light brings out the beauty of everything it touches.

And there is a lot of light coming from this woman who is suddenly in the middle of the road.

She is wearing a long dress that appears to be made of something silvery and flowing. Her right hand is outstretched as if she is telling the explosion to halt.

And as far anyone can tell the explosion obeyed and it's currently held in a stasis midair. The monster cowers from the light.

-- well, this is fascinating and all, but Zahara is going to take advantage of the currently halted explosion to start getting everyone she can out of harm's way.

The woman takes in the scene. A look of deep concern on her face.

The monster roars and sends some glass her way. The shards fall neatly in a semi-circle around her.

Then she looks at the creature. "I'm not here to fight you, broken promise. It's true that I oppose the very thing you are, but my mission here is to help, to heal, to protect," and something about the light shifts, "to empower others so they can stand against you. Others like her."

There is another woman on the opposite end of the street. She is donning a very elaborate full-suit of armor, blue metal with golden accents. She is effortlessly holding a sword and a shield in each hand, despite each looking too heavy to carry single-handed.

Okay, Jeanne is clearly out of commission for the moment. Which means that Zahara gets to handle the stupid dramatic decisions that are supposed to be Jeanne's job. Joy.

"Hi! Magic lady?" she calls, leaning out from behind a car. "If you're empowering people, I could use some over here, there's a bunch of people who are more trapped than I can extract!"

The lady turns to face Zahara, something like recognition crosses her face. "I can't give the power now or even to everyone, despite the fact that you're worthy, Zahara Solomon."

She takes a step to the side and there is something like... an outline of where she was, still glowing.

"But of course I will help people. That is what I'm here for."

And without another word she turns away and dashes away. She avoids obstacles with nimble grace and soon reaches someone that would take Zahara ten minutes to even notice inside that destroyed van.

The monsters turns toward the armored woman and roars. She raises her shield and the jumps far higher than a human should jump and descends her sword upon the creature. It screams in pain and swats her to the side.

-- uh?

Well. It's -- nice? that she's -- worthy??

"Do you," she calls after the mysterious apparition, "have contact information?"

She turns towards her and shakes her head. Then she is not longer looking at Zahara, because she is opening the van and removing the person inside.

Monster and armored woman fight. She is graceful, fast and strong and is getting better experienced as the fight moves along. Once the monster tries to set her on fire, but the shield absorbs the attack.

That is not maximally helpful.

Oh well. Back to rescuing people.

Jeanne has recovered enough to start recording all this on her phone -- and then, apparently unsatisfied with just this, trying to help the armored woman by distracting the monster.

Rescue continues!

The armored woman is confused and instead runs to defend Jeanne.

Oh come on.

"It's okay! I'm a good dodger! You stab, I'll distract!"

"But you're not even wearing a-" and she blocks a punch, "any protection!"

"It's okay, I'm on the Pill!" Jeanne retorts, and does a backflip between cars. "Heeeeere, monster!"

The armored woman looks at her confused, but dodges the monster. The creature digs it's claws on the cars and throws them aside. The woman regains enough composure to stab it again. Her sword glows, which seems to surprise both monster and woman.

See, the goal here is for the monster to be looking at her confused.

Jeanne takes off her jacket and waves it to the side like a bullfighter. "Monster! Hey, monster! Over here!"

Well, in that case the monster is going to bull rush her!

And this would be where bullfighter tactics come in handy -- jacket in front of her, wave, half-dodge, wave, then hold the jacket still while she moves off to the side so the monster keeps tracking the big waving target and goes for that instead of her!

That actually works! The monster ends up with a face full of jacket and stumbles around confused. The armored woman takes this opportunity to stab it in the gut. It staggers, but still moves.

(Ha.)

Well. As long as she's bullfighting...

Jeanne leaps onto the monster's back, and clings.

That is considerably distracting! The monster is very distracted trying to remove this person from it's back.

The armored woman hesitates to attack, but eventually settles with low strikes to the creature's legs.

Jeanne clings to the monster and does her best to not be in the way of stabbing any important parts of it!
