Tabitha-No-Last-Name, young vampiress, is hungry. Not for blood, she ate a deer that morning, but rather for more conventional fare. So, she has picked a house without a decent home security system, and is now rummaging around their fridge. Upon finding some raspberry jam, bread, and margarine, she sets about making herself a sandwich.
"She didn't taste that good, but some of the others did. I hope they were all dumb, too. What now? Should we take over the school?"
"Nah, don't want to draw attention."
"Fiiine. Let's go back home."
He proceeds to tell his mom and Zeke all about how he ate all the kids he didn't like at school. There are numerous digressions about how this kid always acted like a know-it-all, and how that one was mean to him because he couldn't shut up, and so on.
"He did good!"
"I'm proud of you, honey," she says. She's pretty she's not supposed to feel proud that her son killed people, but she's glad that he can handle himself. She's pretty sure that makes her a bad mother by human standards. She's glad there's a new standard to work with.
"Did you both have fun?"
"Yeah, it was great! You should come with us next time we eat."
“He looks good in blood.”
"When he was younger, Stiles couldn't pronounce the name we gave him, Mieczysław. That's how he got the nickname 'Mischief', because he was always getting into some."
Blood is new; it used to be flour, or mud. Still, the sense of pride is familiar. It's been so long since she's gotten to just enjoy being around her son.
"We're going to need to clean you up. Can't have you tracking blood all over the...place."
It probably doesn't matter, really, but she idly wonders about infection. She'll ask the twins' mother.
"Vampires don't have to take baths!"
“What’s wrong with being sticky?”
"During a hunt, nothing. But afterwards, you have to get yourselves clean. You don't want to get sick, or have things stick to you for too long. What would your mother say?"
“...That it’s good to be clean sometimes,” she admits. “Well if I have to have a bath Zeke does too!”
"We can all take baths. It's good to be clean sometimes, especially when you're covered in that much blood."
Claudia...is pretty sure it'll be easier to bathe in a body of water than in a building. She's already feeling more comfortable outdoors than she ever has in her life- running is a kind of mindless joy she's never felt- so she thinks it's time to find out if she's ready to bathe outside. She goes looking for a river or a lake.
Tabby meanwhile is dragging her twin behind her. Eventually they find a nice rushing stream.
Stiles takes the opportunity to turn this into a game. Whoever gets the most clean fastest wins! You can also score points by jumping and doing tricks, though, and other rules that he makes up whenever it looks like he might not win.
This results in Zeke throwing river mud at Stiles.
"Whoever gets hit by the most mud wins!"
This unfortunately does not stop him from throwing some at Zeke. He just can't resist.
"Maybe you should referee?" Tabby asks Claudia.
Claudia seems more inclined to enjoy her bath, but she can referee if she must. No, Stiles, games aren't about coming up with the most complicated possible set of rules and making sure you win because you made them up.
What if his rules are really good though.
"Make up whatever rules you like, as long as the twins can do the same. Once you set a rule, all other rules have to fit with what's already been said."
"Twins share points!"
"That's not fair."
Fine. He will have fun despite being ganged up on.
