The bell rings and the teacher, sitting at his desk reading a book, stands up. "Good morning, class, and welcome to the Paulo Coelho Institute. I'm Roberto Franceschi, and I'll be your magic theory teacher. Ana Bárbara de Castro," he says, barely glancing at the attendance sheet. A short girl with long brown hair and freckles raises her hand, a bit flustered, and says, "H-here."
Maybe she could meet said talented young man later! Anyway, what do they want her to do?
She explains the instructions for the chilling charm ritual. Rafa is going to take over the part that handles the safeties. The bits that do "recognize living beings" and "regulate temperature to not freeze living beings" so people can wear the charms against their skin and not be harmed. The physical charm is one of those small stone disks, standard for this kind of use, but with a snowflake etched into it.
They can start whenever she is ready.
She is totally ready! They can start now.
It goes normally. They draw a diagram on the floor, recite chants in pseudo-Latin, burns herbs and make complicated hand movements, all your typical enchantment stuff. Eventually they finish by blowing out candles to symbolize "the end of heat". And now the room is chillier because of the pile of enchanted charms.
They start the cleaning up process, and the leader distributes charms and money. She offers one of the extra charms to Rafa at cost. And asks her if she could bring some snacks to one of the rooms while they finish tidying up this one?
She thanks for the offer but doesn't want the extra charm, but sure, she'll bring the snacks there.
The woman smiles, hands her the rest of the money and a tray with snacks. "Oh, and ask Thor to come here to collect his pay when they are done."
When she walks into the other room, they are testing their enchanted items: unbreakable china plates. People are throwing them to the floor and watching them bounce back. Giggling might be involved.
Magic nerds are big children, that is what they are.
Oh, look, one of the twins is there. He notices Rafa with the tray, then notices Rafa, gives an all-over glance like it is the first time he sees her and smirks. He takes the tray from her hands and winks at her.
And this twin got a haircut, buzzed on the sides... with the top of the head longer than she remembers.
"...uh, hi, are you Fernando or Felix, and did you get a haircut since this morning?"
He looks her up and down again. "If you want to call me Fernando or Felix, I won't mind at all. My name is Thomas, but everyone calls me Thor."
