DESCRIPTION

SCP-076 consists of two components: a metal cube (SCP-076-1) and a humanoid entity contained within (SCP-076-2.)

SCP-076-1 is a three-meter cube made of anomalously purple-colored titanium alloy.  A single gold-colored band runs vertically through the center of each vertical face; these bands form a cross on each horizontal face.  A gold-colored sculpture resembling a ribbon tied in an elaborate bow, of the same thickness as these gold bands, is affixed to the top face.  When inactive this cube appears solid; however, the top face of the cube is able to detach and form a hatch, attached to only one face (hereafter the "back" face) and capable of extending up to 135 degrees away from its default position.

SCP-076-1 is filled with purple mist that dissipates rapidly whenever the hatch is opened, but seems to regenerate when it is closed.  In the center of the interior of SCP-076-1, there is a wooden wardrobe anomalously colored bright red.  The door of this wardrobe faces away from the "back" face of SCP-076-1, toward the "front" face.  The feet of this wardrobe are fused to the floor of SCP-076-1 and it is considered a component of the same object.  There is also a set of metal rungs fused to the inner surface of the front face of SCP-076-1.

SCP-076-2 superficially resembles a human being.  Its skin is bright red, and it has no hair (though its brows are textured in a manner which gives the impression of ordinary eyebrows) and no visible ears (though its hearing does not seem to be impaired).  Upon discovery within SCP-076-1, and on every occasion which it reappears there, SCP-076-2 is wearing a black bodysuit which leaves its hands, feet, and head uncovered.  The words "Mr. Redd, from Little Misters by Dr. Wondertainment" are written on the back of its neck in black; the words "Doctor's Orders" are written on the inside hem of the neck hole of its bodysuit in white.

While inside the wardrobe, SCP-076-2 stands upright with its hands crossed over its chest. Whenever SCP-076-2 dies, its body and clothing both explode into multicolored paint and confetti.  These remains vanish entirely after approximately one hour.  At the same time its body explodes, it reappears inside SCP-076-1, upright and inanimate inside the wardrobe.

When a human being that has not yet reached his or her thirteenth birthday knocks three times on the outside of SCP-076-1, it will activate.  The top face will open, and metal rungs will emerge from the gold band in the front face to form an exterior ladder.  The child, or any other person, may use the ladders to enter the interior of SCP-076-1 and open the wardrobe.  When the door to the wardrobe is opened, SCP-076-2 animates.

SCP-076-2 answers to "Mr. Redd."  Its most characteristic anomalous capacity is the ability to conjure edged weapons, such as knives and swords, seemingly from nowhere.  These weapons are the same color as its skin, though they are metallic in texture and composition.  It is incomparably skilled in wielding them, as well as non-anomalous edged weapons.

According to SCP-076-2's whim, wounds inflicted by these weapons may be ordinary, or they may be anomalously non-fatal and non-injurious.  In the latter case, any blood and viscera are replaced with colored paint, in a randomly chosen color other than red.

The victim of wounds such as these feels no pain and suffers no debilitating effects; he or she will retain the ability to control injured parts of his or her body as though he or she is uninjured, even if the body part in question is entirely severed from the body.

Wounds dealt to SCP-076-2 will manifest in the same way.  (However, sufficient bodily trauma - far more than needed to incapacitate or kill an ordinary human - will cause SCP-076-2 to "die" and remanifest inside SCP-076-1, as detailed above.)  SCP-076-2 has the ability to heal these wounds in itself and others by tightly holding the severed flesh together for several seconds.  SCP-076-2 also has the ability to cause any or all anomalous wounds inflicted by it to abruptly become non-anomalous by snapping its fingers.

Upon recovery, there was a white envelope affixed to SCP-076-1 by a non-anomalous twine tied around the base of the "bow."  A single document was found inside the envelope, reproduced here:

Have you ever been frightened of monsters in your closet?  With Mr. Redd, part of the exclusive Little Misters collection from Dr. Wondertainment, you can have a friend in your closet who's scarier than any monster, to play with you during the day and keep you safe at night!

But that's not all - Mr. Redd is just one of Dr. Wondertainment's fabulous Little Misters!  There are 19 more out there just waiting for a kid like you to find them!  Collect all 20 and be Mr. Collector!

01. Mr. Chameleon
02. Mr. Headless
03. Mr. Laugh
04. Mr. Forgetful
05. Mr. Shape
06. Mr. Soap

15. Mr. Money
16. Mr. Lost
17. Mr. Spy
18. Mr. Mad

Several days after containment of SCP-076, the line reading "14. Mr. Redd ✔" was altered to read "14. Mr. Redd (discontinued)" through unknown means.

3209 still looks like our best bet, if you're determined to pursue this project, but it's not a very good bet.

There are two versions of the induction right now.  One works about one time in twenty and when it fails the butterflies eat some other interest like normal.  One works about one time in five and when it fails the subject gets brain damage.  In principle you could expose him version one over and over again until you got his interest in protecting children, we've done something similar with our test subjects, but obviously there's no guarantee we don't wind up taking his interest in combat before we get to kids, or something else critical to his aptitude - I don't even know if Redd has twenty interests for the butterflies to eat other than kids and violence.

As a side note, Rackham's not happy about it.  He can't do anything about it directly, the higher-ups are still on your side, but I expect he's fomenting dissent about it.

I can't overstate the value of operatives with skills like Redd has.  Cross your fingers and use the second induction.  He's hardly less useful to us if it doesn't work than if we don't try at all.

Look, I understand your concern, Beatrice.  76-2 has been hard to control in the past.  But it can't imprint on the kids we use to open the vault any more.  That was what always sent it out of control.  It doesn't have any attachments left that can drive it away from the Foundation.  All it wants is a good fight, and that above all we are the best positioned to give it.

The fact is, even if we didn't rely on the military for funding, we're going to hit the limits of what can be done with attack helicopters and body armor sooner or later.  We need anomalous assets to fight anomalous battles!  This isn't acquiescence to government demands, this is to our mutual benefit; it strengthens the military's relationship with us and our own position relative to anomalous threats.

We're old friends, and I know you're trying to do the right thing, so I'll refrain from telling Dora you tried to go over her head, but Bea, this is a losing battle.  Realistically, projects like Omega Seven have to be what the future of the Foundation looks like.

Love to your husband and daughter.
