He points out that she's spending every minute without her virtual reality contacts in with her eyes closed.

She points out that every time he dies it does a tiny amount of irreversible mental damage and while that damage is not yet to the point where it impairs his functioning, it's getting uncomfortably close. Besides, she probably doesn't need his help to cure herself.

He points out the he doesn't need her permission and no one else infected with the Muse pathogen has magical friends they can call at their convenience.

The doctors they've been working with who aren't aware of the exact nature of his immortality. With their help, he vaccinates himself and infects himself with the Muse pathogens.

If he's willing to take some time and do them one at a time, he can figure out which one it is!

The vaccine works. No outrageously virulent difficult bacterium is this.

He's willing to take the time.

To Glen's extreme disapproval, once he's verified the vaccine works, he kills himself to undo the vaccine. Then, he infects himself, gives it time to set in, and tries the cure that worked on the braindead bodies.

The refined version does only very trivial brain damage and kills the pathogen!

How trivial exactly is the brain damage?

If he didn't let the infection progress very far, quite trivial! If he let it fully settle in then it's a little more widespread, but they did manage to get it down from the baseline in testing on braindeads.

What's the nature of the brain damage if it's allowed to settle in first?

The pathogen principally settles in regions of the brain that are responsible for aesthetic discernment and reactions, dreams, and motivation. Lesioning those has potentially idiosyncratic effects, depending on the person...

With a solution, though imperfect, now in existence, it's possible to approach the officially bureaucracy of the Organization with the existence of Muse. They begin to arrange an official delegation.

Glen decides to stay on Muse for a time. The dreams continue to be heartbreakingly beautiful and though the things she's creating are imperfect and still far too ugly, she knows they're more beautiful than anything she's ever created before.
