Well, there's this lady with purple-pink ombre hair, off in the corner inspecting a platter of wontons.

" 'Scuse me," she says.  She can stop walking now, at least for a minute, but she does still shift back and forth from foot to foot, and she hates how nervous it makes her look.  "Could I get a compat check with you - "

"Oh - of course!" She holds out a hand.

Good lord???  What the fuck???

"Oh! That's quite good," she says. "And it feels like you have a bit of backlash—would you like to hold hands for a while?" She turns her hand to offer it in a more holdable position.

" - yeah, sure."  Parry you just went through this with cute ginger straight girl, get it together.  "I'm goin' by Nitro for now but I guess that's taken.  Can we walk and talk, that's my backlash, that I gotta keep walking."

"I'm Watershed. It's nice to meet you! Are you looking for a partner? I already have one but we're both on the lookout for extra opportunities to guide and be guided while we're here."

"I am lookin', yeah.  I, uh, kinda only just started doing this."  Today.

"I still feel pretty new myself, but if I checked the dates I'd probably find out that it's silly of me to think so. What have you been working on?"

"Findin' a partner, I guess," she says.  "When I say just started..."

"Oh, I see! Well, good luck! What do you know about your power so far?"

"I can fly," she says.  "Fast enough to chase down those cars, but I can't, like, speed up or slow down real smooth, I kinda just freeze when I stop."

"That sounds useful. And potentially fun, too! Mine is a sensor power—I can tell how a body of water is flowing if I touch it. I like it, it's meditative."

"Do you get a lot of use out of that in the dungeon scene?" she asks curiously.

"Only when the dungeon is wet. I'm very good for mapping those, though, and finding underwater portals—they called me in to look for Menagerie's, this morning."

" - did you find it?" she asks, more than curiously.

"Yes! I'm waiting to hear back about whether they'll need me to map it too."

"D'you think you all are gonna get it this time?" she asks, intently.  "That's why it never got killed before, right, cuz nobody could find the portal?"

"I certainly hope we will! I'm not very familiar with Menagerie, but it would make sense if it had hidden its portal before; this one was tucked into a shipwreck. Very hard to spot, for most people."

"Did you hear about the - reward, for the little creatures all over town?"

"Oh, do you mean the Menagerie monsters? I'm not sure I knew there was a reward. I wonder if I'll be compensated for pointing out a few of them while I was looking for the portal?"

"Yeah, somebody said some monster zoo in Canada is offering like a million bucks per head if Menagerie goes down this time."  She glances anxiously at nothing.

"Well, I didn't hear anything about that but it's very possible I'm just out of touch."

How are all espers like this about money.  ...she guesses with a power like that Watershed probably couldn't snatch any Menagerie monsters on her own regardless, but still.  Is that just what it's like to be esper rich, millions of dollars hopping around on the street twitching it's little bunny nose just doesn't even register?

How is Nitro's backlash doing?

They are pretty compatible but she's got a pretty big whack of backlash on her.  Higher bandwidth guiding may be indicated to zero it in a timely manner.  Also the narrative may have neglected that Parry would have asked Watershed to start walking alongside her by now.
