He is really not sure that he wants to be in a gang with these people because Alida is a lunatic and Bern and Tetley are useless. Maybe whoever he's matched with will be a better person to be in a gang with.

Conversationally: "Alida, you're with Hellevi, the daughter of the Duke of Weselton, she's quite shy and quiet, you probably won't even notice her. She likes books. Wei Wuxian, you're with Wangji Li, he's one of the sons of the Chinese Emperor, he's... also very quiet and you probably won't even notice him. Tetley, you're with Lonnie daughter of Mulan, she's very cheerful and funny and she's good at every sport. Bern, you're with me."

"Lonnie sounds nice! I look forward to getting to know her."

Maybe he can beat this Li Wangji fellow up a bit and show him who's boss and then he can have a gang.

... Well, he's gonna get beaten up. Fun.

So she's got a spy. Understood.

"Understood."

"Your rooms are all right next to each other, you can look through them now. The other students aren't here yet so you can get a chance to settle in before you meet your roommates."

The rooms have two beds, two desks, two chairs, two chests of drawers, two computers, and one television; they're big enough that this isn't crowded.

What.

Seriously what.

What is UP WITH THIS???

Seriously what???

Do the chests even lock???

(Does her room's door even lock???)

It's so big!

... Two computers? What does Asher need two computers for?

The room's door locks; the chest of drawers doesn't lock.

She's never had this much space in her life!

He flops on the bed. "Guys!" he yells. "Guys! You have to try the beds. They're SO soft."

She flops on the bed.

"The hell?!"

"... Wow."

He's gonna wake up soon, he just knows it.

Fun as enjoying absolutely ridiculous levels of comfort because the entire wealth of her society is negligible next to the wealth of the lords of Auradon is, Alida still has investigation priorities and twenty books to read.

(If she gets a moment apart from Asher, she is totally going to hide some of these books in the book-hiding spots obvious to someone who survived in the Isle. Also some of her knives, before anyone else searches her for them, though not all and not her best.)

Asher seems to want to move the rest of the tour along in a timely manner.

The most important places they go are the registrar's (where they get student IDs and student handbooks which contain all the rules); the cafeteria (where they can get as much food as they want at mealtimes, for free); the gym (where they can exercise); their lockers (which do lock, and where they can put their possessions); and the common rooms where they can socialize with others. But Asher is going to make sure they see the entire school.

Bern reacts most strongly to the cafeteria; as much food as they want? Really? For free?

The lockers may lock but Bern is skeptical. (And he appreciates being warned about the common rooms, so he can avoid them... though if he can find an empty one that may be better than Asher. He'll see.)

Also, wow, the school is so huge and fancy. Bern is pretty amazed.

Alida had already guessed they'd have food free; not confidently, but it fit too well with the immense splendor of the building for her to expect they'd have only limited quantities. Food's cheap when you have a planet of land, and they're trying to overawe the Islanders anyway, this is a cheap way of doing it.

No, the bit she thinks is important is the rulebook. She feels VERY STRONGLY that the main problem with the Isle is that you cannot just learn the rules; you need to spend all this time managing people instead. If these Auradonians did in fact write down what you are supposed to do to Be A Good Student, then she can do that while she works on seizing absolute power.

Asher loops back to the dining room, says "I bet you guys still need to eat dinner," and disappears.

UNLIMITED FOOD!

Wei Wuxian takes as much food as he can carry to his own, separate table, where he's going to get started on his books.

--and so will Tetley, although she is focusing on a single romance novel instead of reading six books at once.
