Xue Yang has no manners, Connie objects
Permalink Mark Unread

Connie has SCORED.

A whole chocolate chip cookie, knocked behind the serving tray and overlooked, only a little nibbled on one edge.  She cut off the nibbled part at dinner (no sense risking possible mal germs) and is munching on it as she heads back down the hall to the freshman dorms, taking small bites to make it last.  She's going to eat half of it and then pick the chips out of the rest and give the crumbs to her mice, chocolate is apparently bad for them.

...maybe she'll eat two-thirds of it.

A cookie!

Xue Yang wants a cookie.

He snatches it out of the girl's hand and chomps it.

"Hey!  What the fuck!"  Connie yells, and then repeats herself in Mandarin, "What think you doing!"  If she's just been racist at some third-generation Korean-American, well, he fucking started it, didn't he.

"You're stupid! You don't speak Mandarin at all!"

"Shut up!"  Connie makes a grab for her snack-  and gets hit with a wave of bad news.

Permalink Mark Unread

That's right! He IS bad news and he's going to have this cookie.

He eats another bite of it.

"I wanted this cookie so I took it."

The other kids in the hallway are sensibly making this not their problem, but there's enough of them that she'll look weak if she just lets him take her stuff- except this kid has hella vibes and she should probably be more worried about getting out of this situation without looking like a tempting future target-

"Get your own!"  Connie snaps, but there is shortly going to be no cookie to fight over.

"No, because then I'd have two cookies. And you should leave me alone if you have any idea what's good for you."

"What, you stop with one?  On a diet?"  She folds her arms and tosses her head, but takes a step back and to the side, hoping she's put enough force into her tone that it sounds like fencing and not like she's misunderstood him (and that she has understood him, that's not an accent she's used to).

"I can have as many cookies and as many drugs as I want."

"You have fun with that."  Another step sideways; does he look inclined to follow her?

Permalink Mark Unread

He... seems a little bit inclined to follow her.

She's not getting out of this without one of them escalating, so that means it should be her.

Connie takes a full step backwards, rattles off sixteen breakneck English syllables and does a weird pointing-and-twisting motion with both hands.  Xue Yang experiences something like an invisible armchair colliding with his midsection at speed.

Connie turns and bolts back toward the cafeteria, not looking behind her.

Well, he knows where HIS next malia is coming from.

"Bitch," he spits.

Permalink Mark Unread

Connie doesn't know that word and is also rounding the corner.  The nothing pinning Xue Yang to the wall evaporates a second or two later.

Permalink Mark Unread

Well, SHE'S going to regret her life choices.

At least he has his cookie.

The older kids have long since cleared out of the cafeteria so Connie heads straight for the library stairs once she's out of sight- she's going to make very sure she isn't being followed before she tries to go back down to the dorms again.  And collect as big a pack of kids as she can.
