Bella is not the kind of enclaver who just definitely doesn't do her own assignments. She might trade some of them away for literature homework or something later but she doesn't have that set up now. She finds her name - "Swan, Isabella" - in the little post-officey thing near the cafeteria entrance, crosses her fingers about mals, and pulls the slip. She has to... yep, it's a cleaning assignment, freshmen almost always get those. She is cleaning the classroom she has those back to back history classes in, she thinks she'll keep that, she spends a lot of time in that room and could stand to have a decent idea of how its nooks and crannies go anyway. And probably it's smart to do it pronto before the weekend mals filter in.
"Miriti, Nia" is over... there! Between "Miller, Harold" and "Mi Ri". Nia does not know a lot about Chinese pronunciation so she imagines the latter to be a very cheerful sounding name, but does not meet the individual in question before collecting her slip of paper. She is supposed to clean the mal studies auditorium, rows AA through OO. "Aaoo," Nia says to no one in particular, looking around to see if anyone has a particularly appealing swap.
Apparently not having a janitor means the kids have to be janitors? The New Yorkers don't have to because they trade away their shifts for whatever but Rebecca is not going to ask about that unless it turns out it's somehow REALLY horrible to do janitor things. She finds the Dillard, Rebecca box - huh, how does the school know her name, it's not like it was expecting her - magic, presumably - and finds in it a slip of paper that says she has to sweep one of the hall sections on the freshman level. That's not too bad, she can sweep. It has a spell for animating the broom but sweeping isn't bad enough that she'll spend mana on it, she thinks, she'll consider this a way to build up mana she can spend later if she has to clean toilets or something.
El tries four times to swap away her assignment to clean a section of the lab - freshmen are supposed to stay in the upper levels of the school, what the fuck! - but nobody's biting. If she has to do this at least it's early in the semester.
Where's Bobbie gotten to, maybe she'll buddy up for this even if New Zealand has a minion.
Caio has never previously thought about how having five names could confuse this poor British-designed spell, but eventually he finds himself under "Inácio Nilo Paes Almeida, Caio" and at least it will probably be in the same place next week. He's supposed to dust and sweep the stairsward language lab. That's pretty okay.
Kevin goes around to all four of the Boston cubbies and picks up various classrooms and bathrooms to clean. Hilariously, one of them is the classroom he's nominally taking Korean History in. (He doesn't speak Korean or care about its history and is just there to copy Marcy's papers and free up the block for maintenance.) He looks around for people to pair up with and spots Bella.
"Hi. Want to do our shifts together? We can do any of these four and I can find someone else for the other three."
Julian spends twenty minutes looking for his assignment and eventually finds it under Ch'en Ch'i Li, which is admittedly sort of how an English person might attempt to transliterate his name in 1892. He's supposed to clean one of the library reading rooms, which is nice and safe and convenient except for how it's going to involve interacting with enclavers.
Alexius makes his trade with Huang, then sets about introducing himself to the maintenance track kids, mentioning his plans to offer lookout/bodyguarding services for larger groups later in the year and to offer the doing of homework assignments, even for classes he's not in.
Philadelphia probably has a sophomore or junior with a deal for doing maintenance. They didn't tell Theun who it was, and he didn't ask; for once, it's somewhere they agree.
He got... cleaning part of the lab? Really? Eh, it's early, better not to go into debt for it now.
"Anyone else cleaning the lab?"
Lysander is humming quietly to himself - it's too quiet in this damn school - as he collects all the assignments for Berlin. Cleaning, cleaning, ugh, boring - oh, Madge's is a minor repair to a wall panel, great, he's doing that one first. He dodges El (yikes) on her way past and attempts to catch Kevin, the other kid already confidently collecting more than one assignment, before he leaves. "Hey, real quick, I see you have a plan for right now but can I hit you up at dinner for maybe trades?" He waves his stack of slips.
