[F] [English] [July 7] Grimm

A class on... fairy tales? No, Ennis has been informed otherwise; the brothers Grimm are best known for their collections of folklore but they did other things, and the ways in which they collected and edited the folklore were strongly influenced by prevailing German mores of the time and blah blah. She has her first language lab right after this, and her choices are to either focus enough on the provided original texts to guarantee she gets German, and then risk getting Russian in the Siberian history class, or try to avoid German, get some other language assigned by fiat, and risk getting German and possibly also Russian later. Ugh. She will stick herself with German, it's a reasonable enough choice and should be easier than Russian, and the Siberia class meets less often and might well be easier than this one to do wholly in English. She locates her textbook and picks apart the German excerpts as best she can.

Lissa looks somewhat disappointed that the class won't be focusing completely on folklore, though the history bit is kind of intriguing. And at least German's a language she's already getting practice in, so she's choosing to focus on that part right now. Some of the stories are kind of familiar to her through other sources, so that's useful for trying to understand them too.

She hasn't spoken German in a long time, but the language lab is going to help her there, and it'll be good to practice it here, too. And she likes fairy tales, so maybe that will make this class easier. She picks a seat away from the people who are already sitting and starts reading.
