Bella stops by the infirmary with a spare apple from breakfast in case the nurse didn't get any or would like an extra apple, and lets herself in. "Hey, is this a good time? My thing is not remotely urgent."
The nurse is looking pretty subdued this morning, but lets her in with a wan smile. "It's a fine time. I wanted to do some word-spreading anyway - uh, I got lucky with the void and I have a pretty big stash of shelf-stable nutrition supplements, I'm interested in trading them to artificers or alchemists who can help me replicate some of my standard ICU equipment in here. What do you need, though?"
"Some of everything! I'm not going to administer them very exactly; agglos pick things up, especially things imbued with mana or intent, so I'll just give them the things and see if there are fewer grubs in that tank than in the control group tank. It would work symbolically if at all. I assume you know about more different kinds of birth control than I do, but like, pills and condoms and IUDs and those ring things and an implant?"
"....Okay, I think these are birth control pills? Brand name is 'Enovid' which I've never heard of and they expired in, uh. Apparently in 1965? And I have no idea what these ones are, they're labelled in....Russian? I think they're some kind of implant? And here is exactly one copper IUD that, uh, looks...used...? I guess at least it's clean?" It's not even in any kind of packaging, and now it's just on the floor looking slightly bent.
"Oh! If you want poisonous stuff, the void gave me so much random crap yesterday! I have some extremely expired rocuronium, uh, that paralyzes people? And I have extremely concentrated potassium in a vial for some fucking reason, I wanted IV fluids not something that's lethal to inject!"
"...Sorry, I shouldn't badmouth the void, it was trying really hard and then it apologized by giving me eight hundred packages of nutrition supplement paste. I...guess I might ever want potassium but I've already got a couple of the 10mmol bags."
She was eventually even able to coax some epinephrine out of the void, though at that point it was pretty clear that it wouldn't save Sophie's life, so she kept it in reserve - who knows when she might end up treating a kid with traumatic injuries or something that are fixable with magic if she can get them stabilized long enough to obtain said magic.
"Awww, thanks! - Oh, by the way, I don't know if you know the African kid who's really concerningly skinny? If you see him, can you tell him I'll give him nutrition paste in exchange for doing a really thorough check for mals on all my stock in the mornings? I've got kind of an enormous pile now and it's hard to keep it all where nothing can hide in it."
"I appreciate the philosophy of medical confidentiality in the outside world where there are people other than high schoolers and one nurse to act as a police force but if you know who has been running around murdering my classmates it would actually be very good of you to tell a senior. Maleficers snowball, every death makes them harder to stop."
"I don't have any specific reason to think he's murdering anyone! I - on reflection I don't think he could possibly even know Sophie? He only speaks Mandarin. I...guess I should probably tell someone? - Wen Qing must've already, though, she was the one who, uh, said she thought he'd done maleficing before - but I think people can have that aura without having done any murders, if they used animals for it...?"
"....Oh my god." Marian shudders. "I - sorry - I'd better let you get to class on time." In case being late for class here results in MONSTERS EATING YOU, which seems extremely on brand for the death school. "Yeah. I'll ask her. She's a Shanghai student who's my apprentice."
Fuck. Fuck.
Marian sits down on one of the gurneys and hugs herself and - hopes, desperately, that it wasn't Crimes Kid. She's gone and been an enormous idiot and gotten attached to him not dying, and there's - there's no way the school doesn't have the death penalty, what the hell else would they do...
Probably Wen Qing's already checked, though.
