Lily and Ribo talk about wire based accessories
Permalink Mark Unread

After finishing dinner Ribo goes looking for more new people to meet. She notices there's another girl with a lot of bracelets made from wire. She goes over to say, "Hi there. I notice you're a fellow wire aficionado."

"I am! Lily, Canada, Bracelets. I prefer wire because it's sturdier and faster but I also do cloth bracelets, they just take forever to weave. Elastic ones too, occasionally. Would you like a look at some of my trade bracelets?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I'm Ribo, also Canada and my affinity is wire. What do your bracelets do?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I have shielding, blasting, endurance and storage on offer." She pulls out four bracelets; all of them are copper wire with threaded semiprecious stones, tigerseye and hematite and malachite. The storage one has a diamond the size of her pinky in the band.

"Did you make them yourself that's impressive if so."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Yes, they're mine. Freshman work, obviously, but I have my affinity going for me and I've been practicing in metal for years. I've sold a few for decent prices already, got a pair of earrings that I'm pretty sure are professionally done. Speaking of which, do you know anyone who does ear piercings?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Nice, I didn't figure out my affinity until more recently before that I was mostly working on learning biology from Mother. I could pierce your ears for you. It's not very complicated."

Permalink Mark Unread

"That would be lovely. You say you have a wire affinity - could you draw wire from this?"

She pulls a cube of solid copper about a thumb wide and a thumb tall from her pack.

"Something from the storerooms."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I can, it's a little mana expensive to do it with magic for now though. Should be more usable next year. I'm hoping the workshop has tools for that. Would you like me to do the piercing now? It's a small amount of mana to sterilize and do a little precise healing so they're less prone to irritation or infection. I could also just do it the mundane way with my multi tool but that would be more likely to get infected if you couldn't keep them clean."

Permalink Mark Unread

"If you'd be willing to do that for me I'll give you this cube for it. The workshop does have drawplates, I snagged one, but I can't promise there'll be one for you by the time you get down there though."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Alright, do you have the earrings handy? I want to make sure I size the piercings right."

Permalink Mark Unread

She pulls one of the pair out from a small pocket in the back of her pack. "Here you go."

Permalink Mark Unread

She takes the earrings and looks them over. "This will hurt a little, do you want to sit down?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Probably for the best." She sits.

Ribo whispers a spell under her breath and Lily's ears tingle then she whispers another and there's a slight pinching feeling before Ribo inserts one earring into the newly created hole. Then she does the other side. "How's that?"

Permalink Mark Unread

Lily doesn't wince at the pinch, but does jump when Ribo speaks again.

"What a curious experience. I can hear... more three-dimensionally? This will really take some getting used to. Thank you very much, here's your cube." She deposita it in Ribo's hand.

She accepts the cube. "That's a neat effect. Do you know if there's a way to get more?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"This was a spare pair, brought in by an enclaver group I did a supply run with this morning - I think it might have been Boston? I don't think they have any more, though you could always check."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Could you tell me more about what your shielding bracelets do? I don't think I need any of the others but those sound potentially useful."

Permalink Mark Unread

"They give a little edge to any shielding or warding spell cast while you're wearing them."

Permalink Mark Unread

"That does sound useful. What sort of things are you looking for in exchange?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Do you have any enchanted items you'd be willing to part with?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Not just yet, most of what I brought was mana storage and you seem to have enough of that. Most everything else I need got integrated into my multi tool." She waves the wrist wrapped with wire. "I'd offer one of my alarm bugs but I don't know how long they'll last in here."

Permalink Mark Unread

"No thank you. I think I'll save this to trade later, then."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I expected as much. If they haven't gone bad in a few months I expect Mother's creatures will last for as long as I need them, maybe we can talk again then, or maybe I'll have made something else you'll want in shop. Is there anything in particular you're looking for?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"At this point my basics are covered, but more healing and anti-poison items would be good."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I have a good poison detection spell I could probably tweak into an artifact if that's what you mean. Making something that unpoisons things would be harder and healing is probably beyond me for this year at least."

Permalink Mark Unread

"I already have a poison detector, thank you. I was hoping more for an antidote. But alas." She shrugs.

Permalink Mark Unread

"If they were easy to make you'd probably already have one."

Permalink Mark Unread

"True enough." She sighs.

"Well, see you around?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"I will. It was nice meeting you."

Permalink Mark Unread

"The same to you!"
