Nikasios lands in Hyrule
Permalink

Nikasios is running. He's already resigned himself to being caught because there are four of them and only one of them, but that doesn't mean he's not going to try.

And then he's somewhere else.

Somewhere else is a forest. There's slight breeze. It's an unusually pretty forest. The trees and bushes are mostly bright green, healthy, and neat. There are apples, colorful mushrooms, and flowers growing. There's a sort of foot path, not a road but a path people might take sometimes.

There's a faint hint of childish laughter on the wind, but other than that, nothing to explain why he's suddenly here.

He assumes some god intervened for some reason. Potentially his unknown parent, though he's never intervened before so Nikasios isn't sure why he'd pick now to start.

He thanks the air anyway and starts walking. He'll pick an apple and take a tentative bite.

The apple is pretty tasty! There's a gentle slope to the forest, and signs that, to someone with experience in the outdoors, mean there's a river off to the left somewhere.

Through gaps in the trees, a lazy trail of campfire smoke is visible maybe half a mile off, off to the left a bit.

He'll approach the campfire carefully. Occasionally people assault him on sight, but most people are good people, and even the ones who aren't tend to try other strategies first. It's not a tremendous risk. He's still ready to bolt if he needs to.

There's a single small tent, a small fire, a saddled horse grazing nearby, and a short but sturdy woman with pointed ears roasting some mushrooms over the fire and humming, facing away from him.

She's wearing what might be leather armor, or might just be an unusually elaborate and covering outfit. She doesn't seem to have any weapons, at least not any large ones.

"Hello," Nikasios says cheerfully, from a good distance away.

She jumps a bit and turns around sharply. Her hand goes to her hip but falls away. "Oh, hello! Wow, you startled me... You okay? You look a bit..." She waves an arm. "Eh, I don't know, nervous? Pretty sure I got all the monsters in this patch of woods, if it helps."

She looks at him and she wants him almost more than she's ever wanted anyone in her life. Certainly she's never wanted anyone this much this quickly. He's attractive, but it's more than that. It's strong and intense and immediate and it happens before she even has a chance to take in what he looks like. It doesn't fade either, just remains.

He hangs back, obviously still nervous, but trying on a smile anyway.

"I'm lost," he says. "Could you tell me where we are?"

She's no stranger to attraction, but that's... Strange. Something is not quite right. Love at first sight? That doesn't sound right. Also, his ears aren't pointed.

"...Fuuuunny you should mention that. I'm pretty lost too. Maybe not as much as you. I was looking for the Sacred Forest, but... Uh... Hey, you want some roast mushrooms?"

"I think I'm more lost than that. I appeared here. I think it might have been a god and I'm not sure how far I was sent."

"A god? You mean Goddess Hylia? I don't see why the Goddess would do something like that, unless you were in danger or something."

"Do you only have one god here?" he sounds surprised, "I must be very far. I was in danger but nothing unusual enough for a god to notice."

"There's Goddess Hylia and the Dark God Ganon. I've never heard of others. Maybe the dragons count...? Yeah, you must be very far from home." How does she want him so much. It doesn't make sense. She tries to not think about it, there's more important things to think about right now.

He shakes his head.

He's still hanging back.

"I haven't heard of them. What country is this?"

Yeah something is definitely wrong here. Who the heck is this guy? She doesn't manage to keep the tenseness off her face.

"These lands used to be the Kingdom of Hyrule. That kingdom's fallen now, but we still call it that. Hyrule, I mean. East past the mountains is the Necluda region, they're still kinda country-ish? Who are you, anyway? My name is Link. I think."

"I'm Nikasios."

He notices her tension.

"Um, if you don't have many gods here, you might not have a lot of people like me. I have a curse, sort of, that makes people want me. I'm sorry, I can't turn it off."

"Oh, is that what it is? A curse... I've never heard of a curse like that before. It must cause a lot of problems. It's... Very distracting."

She wonders for a moment if he could be a monster that's... Tricking her, or something? But that really doesn't seem like the kind of thing that monsters do. And she'd probably be able to feel the Malice if this guy is a powerful manifestation of Ganon.

...Nah, it doesn't feel like that's the case, and she's learned to trust her instincts on this kind of thing.

"I don't think it's technically a curse. No one did it to me on purpose I don't believe, but that's the easiest way to describe it. I can leave if it's bothering you?"

"I mean, it's not necessarily even bad, it's... I mean, I guess you're probably really tired of people staring at you if you're cursed or I'd suggest... Anyway! You might get in trouble on your own out here. I don't see that you have a weapon or anything. I have some, they're, uh, it's hard to explain."

He smiles.

"Yeah, I am, but I know my curse makes it hard not to. I don't want to have sex. I should say that now I think. But, it would be really nice to not be alone."

"Makes sense." She kind of wants to say something else, but leaves it at that. "I only have one tent... I could escort you to one of the stables, or a village? There's, uh, lots of people in places like that, though. Kinda. By definition. I don't know where you want to end up. I should probably give you a weapon and a shield."

"I'm hard to kill, so even if something attacks me I'll be alright. Are the monsters around here people?"

"I mean, I don't think so? They make crude weapons, they cook sometimes, but they don't talk or do art or have babies or fight in any cleverer way than charging at you or anything. I think Ganon makes monsters just barely smart enough to be a threat, and no smarter... Maybe Lynels. Lynels are pretty smart. Rare though."

"If they're not smart enough to be attracted to me, then it should be safe for me to travel with you. I'd really appreciate help getting to the nearest town."

"I can totally do that. The nearest town is probably Kakariko. There's a couple of stables closer though - stables have maybe a dozen or two people, mostly travelers, at a time? ...You know what, I think we should have you pray to Goddess Hylia. If anyone can lift a curse, it would be her."
