The Trial and Sentencing of Lady Eriape, A Lich
lol jk she's not getting a trial

Lady Eriape was pretty far down Aspexia's list of problems to deal with, but that was when "Deal with her" meant infiltrating her lair and defeating her there. If a bunch of her nobles and other adventurers are going to do most of the work for her, she can spare a few minutes and some spells to make it stick. She said as much when asked by Cansellarion when he was planning the raid. So she's not surprised to get a late-night no-notice request for an audience.

The local heroes of the evening get their thanks and congratulations, and haul out the lich. Aspexia casts a chains of light to keep her contained for the short-term, then a dominate monster as soon as the others have left.

Answer all of my questions honestly, to the best of your ability, and without attempting to mislead me.

Do you have any contingency plans for the event of your capture?

"Hello Miss Queen. I did have a Necklace of Fireballs to Destroy this Body, but your Goons stole it from Me! Rude if you ask Me! You'll hear from my Lawyer in the Morning- my Badgers will arrange That!"

Who is your lawyer?

Permalink Mark Unread

"Your Imperial Constitutional Convention Delegate Lluïsa Oriol i Cornellà. She was a Good Choice for a Delegate I think. Well Done your Majesty! I Particularly liked her Defence of Valia Wain."

Permalink Mark Unread

That is probably unconcerning.

Do you expect anyone to attempt to free you?

"It is Unlikely, unless the Virtuous Urchins of Westcrown rise up in Protest! My Badger Friends have Likely Evacuated out of the Country by Now using a Hidden Scroll!"

Permalink Mark Unread

To where?

Permalink Mark Unread

"Osirion, the Worldwound, or Geb, or a Few Other Less Likely Places we have Scryed. I Think you would Enjoy Meeting your Badgery Subjects, but I do not Know where they will Go. If you want to meet Clarabella, I think she did not Get Away!"

Oh, wonderful, she has more complaints from Osirion about undead badger nonsense to look forward to.

Where is your phylactery?

Permalink Mark Unread

"It is in Safe Deposit Box A0D8C, of the 497th Bank of Abadar, Aktun, Axis."

Permalink Mark Unread

How sensible. Banks in Aktun, of course, charge perfectly fair, i.e. exorbitant, prices for material plane deposits, so she doubts this is a permanent arrangement...

For how long will it be there?

Permalink Mark Unread

"My Bankers have been instructed to Keep it there Forever, even against my Subsequent Preferences. They have However Warned me that should I not Pay the Fees they will Auction it Off at Some Auction House in Axis after Two Months. I do not Remember the Name. It will all be in the Paperwork in my Lair. You might ask your Very Impressive Paladin to Pick it Up when he gets Clarabella!"

Permalink Mark Unread

Do you have an agent intending to bid on your behalf?

Permalink Mark Unread

"Nope! I am Not Afraid, for my Cause is Just!"

Permalink Mark Unread

... Really. What kind of person becomes a lich and then is so careless with her immortal soul?

Well, then. Eriape can expend all her remaining prepared spells, then lie down in a pit of mud in the front hall of the palace while a court wizard turns it back to stone. Aspexia will be back in a month to re-up the dominate.

Eriape does so, lies down, and gets frozen in Stone.

It does not Matter.

She knows the True Secret, and her Captor did not Ask.

For there are now seven locations on Golarion, warded places, places she does not know, and cannot tell anyone about.

Places where her awakened Badgers are now Breeding True.

Forever watched by her Patient and Undying Lieutenants.

Perhaps not This Century, but Eventually.

The Badgers will Rise.
