Mariko is sitting on the apartment balcony with her notebook, diligently writing out her thoughts for the day. She doesn't really feel like it, she's got a bad cold and would sooner lie in bed being brought miso soup at regular intervals, but she knows she'll feel better if she sorts out her thoughts even if those thoughts are mostly that she hates being sick, and wishes she could assign the part of herself that wants to do things literally every day come what may to her immune system its own body to do this for her.
"Thanks. Should we meet again sometime?"
"Sometime mom's not working so she'll talk to you for more than five minutes."
Kaoru looks at Hikaru.
"When's the show?"
They get out their phones simultaneously.
"Wednesday then?" he asks Mariko.
"Wednesday's good. Show?"
"She can't think about anything else when one's coming up."
"Can I get in and have a look around?"
The twins consider.
"People probably wouldn't notice you."
"And we're good at ending conversations."
"Why not?" they say together.
"What exactly does 'good at ending conversations' mean?"
"People expect us to be rude."
"So if we have to come and mysteriously drag you away-"
"-no one will be surprised."
"I suppose that's a way to be good at a thing."
"You'll still need a backstory."
"In case anyone's really nosy."
"What are my options like there?"
"You applied for an internship."
"Or we picked you up at a party."
"Are the internships conventionally available to high school students?"
"No, but you could have been very impressive."
