She finds the mirror in a closed-off corridor of the Roman catacombs. She's super not allowed to be there, but she's been reading through her mother's books and learning about her father in whispers and margin notes, and she knows he's from a different dimension, and she's read that this mirror thingy is supposed to be good for visiting other dimensions. It's super dangerous, which is why it's down here and guarded by traps, but since she can phase through stuff the getting here was kind of a cakewalk. She's not entirely sure how many dimensions there are or how one goes about narrowing down a scavenger hunt that size, but maybe the mirror will take her someplace useful, and then she'll be one step closer to figuring all of this out.

She places a hand on the mirror. It hums and lets her slide through its silvery surface, then spits her out on the other side.

She is on a beach. A tropical one, judging by the sweltering heat and the tropical jungle boxing it in between the sea. Towering over the trees is a mountain, capped by a dome that throws back the sunlight so well, it's hard to look at.

There's also a bunch of naked children fighting. Or they were until they all stopped to look at the new girl. Some of them are glowing. One of them--a girl with almost silver hair and birds twittering above her head--shouts "Intruder!"

Well that's weird, though probably not in the top five weirdest things she's ever seen. Top ten, maybe. She feels like this is probably not the dimension her dad is from, but you can't necessarily tell these things that instantaneously.

"'Sup," she says to the naked kids.

"Hello!" says a rainbow coloured boy, waving at the girl exuberantly.

"Maurice! Don't say hello to the intruder!"

"Hey," she says, waving calmly back. "So, where's this?"

"Bouyan Island," says another glowing child, one of two identical looking boys.

"Cool-lookin' place," she says, burying her hands in the pocket of her hoodie. She would ask about the naked thing, except her hoodie's pretty hot and she's not sure that the other kids aren't the ones with the right idea here.

Moira decides to interrogate her. "Where are you from, weird cloak girl?"

"Place called Earth," she says, figuring Earth's not super secret because her dad definitely already knows about it.

"Well duh," says the other boy-twin. "Where on Earth?"

Huh, weird. "Missouri."

"That's in America, right?" asks a grey boy. His skin looks slippery, like a dolphin's, while his eyes are large and obsidian. His fingers are webbed, and end in black claws. Otherwise, quite normal looking.

"Yep. Right about in the middle. Where's Bouyan Island, then?"

"No one tell her!"

"Australia," Maurice answers. "Off the coast of it, I mean."

"Huh, cool." Sort of lame, actually, but not in any way that's their fault. It looks like the mirror doesn't take you to different worlds at all, it just spits you out in a different place on Earth. She can sort of see how someone might get confused if they didn't immediately ask for directions, though.

"You guys live here?"

The dolphin boy fields this one. "Those three do," he says pointing to the blond trio. "Maurice just hangs out here most of the time, and I live in the sea!"

"Neat," says Raven, approvingly.

"So, what do you do?"

She's pretty sure this is the sort of question that people mostly ask adults.

"I dunno. Read books. Fly places."

...Powers, I mean. You're a Miracle, right?"

"I dunno, I guess." Maybe the opposite of a miracle, but she doesn't wanna say that out loud. It's pretty cool and pretty creepy that they got that much right off the bat, though. "I have flight and telekinesis and phasing and force fields and if I focus real hard I can do telepathy sometimes."

The boy whistles, giving her a thumbs up. "Nice."

"M'still working on it," she says, shrugging. "What do you do?"
