"It's - I mean, I can't in fairness say it's not a big deal, but it's not... the end of the world? Even if you are crazy, you're still... there."

He nods, looking out the window.

"I think I might be dangerous," he says in a tone that's more thoughtful than alarmed.

"I haven't hurt anyone, but I do live in the middle of nowhere."

"Well. What do you want to do about it if you are?"

He considers this.

"I could move back to Oregon and fix boats."

"You could!" he agrees. "I'd miss you, but maybe I'd come visit once in a while."

They're coming up toward Will's house now. He slows to a more reasonable speed.

Will smiles at him.

A few of Will's dogs are in front of the house. He'd left the door open behind him.

He smiles back, then pulls up near the house and stops the car.

"Think you'll be okay from here?"

He nods and starts to open the door, pauses, "Do you want to come in?"

"Sure."

The dogs gather around Will as he gets out of the car, but he calms them with a few words. A few go over to sniff curiously at Tas.

Will's house is completely isolated, his nearest neighbor almost a mile up the road. The building is two stories but relatively small with an obviously well-used front porch.

Will goes in through the open front door and flips on the light. The living room is cluttered and cozy. Two bookshelves stand against one wall, books and miscellaneous objects crowding together on the shelves. The couch is worn and covered in fur.

Aww.

"I like your house. It's - very you."

"I like it here. It was a wreck when I bought it. I put it back together."

Will continues through the living room into the kitchen. The kitchen is equally cluttered and equally cozy and smells faintly of fish.

"Want any coffee?"

"Oh, no thanks."

He nods and starts a pot for himself.

While it's brewing he goes back to the living room and slumps down onto the couch. After a moment, he sits up and checks his feet.

The soles are completely unharmed.

He stares at them.

(Good job, Tas. Magically healing the guy who already thinks he's going crazy. Well, at least he'll probably stop actually going crazy now, that's worth something.)

He prods the bottom of his foot.

No injuries suddenly appear.

He glances at Tas.

"Do," he pauses, "my feet look fine to you?"

Oh there are no good answers to that question.

But, well, he's hardly going to lie.

"—yeah."

"Usually I cut them up pretty bad," Will says, "Maybe I... started with shoes?"

He doesn't sound like he really believes it.

"Maybe?" he says. "That sounds at least vaguely plausible."

Will gives him an odd look, but only says, "Maybe."

The coffee machine beeps Will goes and gets a mug and returns to the couch. He holds it between his hands without drinking it.

Tas calms down a little when there are no further questions, but he's still a bit of an emotional mess. Awkward about the subject of Will's miraculous feet, on edge over that, sad about Lynne, concerned for Will, but also comforted by Will's presence and the amount of Will's personality all over his house.

After a minute, though, he decides that he probably isn't going to help much by standing here being a big pile of feelings.

"I should probably get home," he says, a little reluctantly. "I'm not usually awake at this hour of the morning."

Will nods and stands to open the door.

"Thank you, really" he says seriously.

He smiles.

"You're welcome," he says, with that very Tas sort of casually deep sincerity.

And off he goes.

When Will finally checks his phone a few hours later, he has several missed calls from Jack. The messages Jack leaves are curt and to the point. There was a murder. Nothing makes sense. They need Will now.

Will almost doesn't go, but his mind feels clear and sharp and there's an edge of worry to Jack's voice that isn't normally there.
