The USS Cardinal is on high alert. Technically speaking, they're not expecting an attack, this is a stop to take on supplies. But it's known that the inhabitants of this planet are only following Federation law in appearance, and are bending and breaking it wherever they can get away with. It means that the crew are all on edge, and the Security Chief had already been relieved from her post after she managed to break one of the consoles.
"Yeah," Lee agrees. "We'll have to get food somehow, but we'll work it out."
Erie nods, gives her a gentle squeeze, kisses her hair. "'Splore more later?"
"Sounds like a plan," Lee agrees, smiling, and reaching over to stroke Autumn's head gently.
Autumn pushes slightly into her hand. Safe.
"Yeah," she agrees, softly. At least for now.
They seem content with that answer, and curl a little tighter against Lee and Erie.
"Should sleep," Erie murmurs.
Lee reaches up with her free hand to stroke his hair. "Yeah," she agrees. "I'll take first watch? If you think you can sleep, Autumn?"
They chitter out something that isn't quite affirmative, but is an agreement to try.
Erie nods. "Two hours?" he suggests.
About two hours later, as they're in the process of swapping watch, the feel of the ship around them changes, and it moves.
"-'right for now." Erie rests his hand gently on Autumn's back.
Lee breathes out, and leans into them. "Away," she murmurs.
Autumn presses closer to them, but somehow seems slightly calmer. Safer.
Lee strokes Autumn's head. "Yeah."
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the ship, USS Cardinal's security chief had managed to convince their Captain to let her back on duty, and was reviewing the sensor logs from while they were loading supplies.
It doesn't take her long to notice the anomalies, and she frowns at them, before heading down to Engineering.
"Ma'am?" she hails the Chief Engineer.
"Thought we agreed you were gonna stop ma'aming me," Deazual says. "What can I do for you?"
"I was hoping you knew where Lieutenant Mina was, ma'am?"
"Just a moment!" Etas'ni calls from above them.
Arla looks up, and gives an inelegant snort. "Should know better than to accost the Engineering Chief before checking the catwalks."
"I've told you, accost me any time. At the moment we're not exactly rushed off our feet."
After a little, Etas'ni finishes with the conduit she was working on, and flips over the catwalk railing to land neatly beside them. "What do you need me for?"
"Wanted you to look over some sensor readings with me, if you've got a moment?"
