Well. This is terrifying. Movement is terrifying.

But food. She can do this.

How's her sense of smell?

Her sense of smell is good enough to identify squirrel food, most likely. Is that some food over there?

Oooh. She runs over to it, but also trying to keep her awareness high for signs of danger.

Fooooood.

No signs of danger present herself-

BIRD IN THE SKY WINGS ABOVE HER PREDATOR

....

She gets the fuck out of there and runs back to her slide.

It's a false alarm. There's nothing flying overhead. The food is still there.

Yeah, she can live without the food and the terror. She's going to stay in her slide where she's safe from the fake and potentially real danger.

And change back into Sarah-shape.

The process is smooth. The playground is empty.

And so she changes back and quickly gets dressed.

How was she supposed to save all human life on earth from being enslaved when she can't even be a squirrel and not freak out?

She lies down on the slide and thinks about that for a while.

She wakes up. The playground remains empty, but the sun is peeking above the horizon.

Well. It's not the first time she's gone to sleep in a playground. She is such a cliché.

So she gets her things together, thankful that her camera wasnt damaged or stolen, and starts her day.

Taking the bus seems like a good option.

Do evil aliens take the bus too?

Very few students take the bus. If any of them are evil aliens, they don't give off any signals to that effect.

She keeps her distance regardless, she has no idea how to identify evil aliens anyway.

Hopefully Kasper or Callie, or any of them, figure out a way.

Khloe seems to be pretty good at it. She should ask her for tips...

"Hey."

Matt approaches her, ducking his head to stare at her feet.

"How are you holding up?"

"Well, I kind of slept in a park last night to avoid...everything. But. I'm not freaking out. Yet." She pauses and tries to catch his eye. "Are you okay?"

She resists the urge to reach out and touch him, to give him comfort.

"I'll be fine. There are more important things now, right?"

"You're important. We'll all get through this together. I promise."

"I hope so. Callie wants us all to have lunch together. You know how she gets. Are you up for it?"

"Dare I disturb the Callie monster any further? I'll be there. Plus, it lets me avoid Brian some more. A lesson in avoidance, I have to practice."

"We all do."

He reaches for her hand.

She meets him halfway and holds tight.

"Our lives are so weird. And -- probably about to get weirder."

"We'll get through it. See you then."

He squeezes her hand, and retreats.

His words are reassuring -- unreasonably so. She takes time to bask in that reassurance, and then goes to her locker to grab her class things. Hopefully not running into Brian or any evil aliens.

Both. Either.

Neither one of them ruins her good mood.

Classes follow, as expected. No one seems any different than she remembers.

This is good.

She does her work and keeps her head down.
