It is the first day the Chelish Constitutional Convention reconvenes after the riots on the 3rd of Sarenith. Shortly after all attending members of the delegation take their seats, a booming voice rings out to them all:

"CONGRATULATIONS, MORTALS! YOUR DEVOTION TO VIOLENCE PLEASES GORUM!

AS A SHOW OF HIS FAVOR, HE SHALL GIFT ALL DELEGATES OF THE CHELISH CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION ACCESS TO GOLARION'S KILLS / DEATHS / ASSISTS SCOREBOARD! YOU MAY NOW SEE HOW YOU AND YOUR PEERS RATE ON SLAUGHTERING THOSE THAT DARE OPPOSE YOU, AND COMPETE FOR THE TOP SLOT!"

A druid sloooooowly slides down in her chair, debating the merits of turning into a bird to fly off or not. It's not like it would help, anymore, not with those numbers available for everyone to see. Damn it, and she was trying to make druids seem so friendly...

Whaaaat? There's no way that's right, she's killed more than that in twenty years of making breakfast!

Permalink Mark Unread

If this were a "souls damned to Hell" board she'd clean the Hell up (pun intended). Wait, that's a bad thing.

Her Majesty Aspexia III  | 2446 | 57 | 34,682,473

Well, that's out in the open now.

Permalink Mark Unread

He’s relieved none of his debt shenanigans contributed to anyone’s death so he is at a nice 0/0/0

He glances at the leaderboard for anything interesting.  That’s interesting about the Queen, he didn’t realize adventurers got killed and resurrected so much?  And the assist count must be really generous?  What could even get it that high?  Maybe helping close the worldwound killed multiple cities worth of demons?

Glancing at the rest of the board… wow, he makes a not to his self not to piss off any of the Druids.

Permalink Mark Unread

If anybody asks that was a baby. Maybe a deformed baby.

Permalink Mark Unread

If anybody asks that was....... fish...... pirates. Yeah.

Permalink Mark Unread

2/0/0 for herself.  Well, she’s glad she truthfully shared her past when asked.  So no one can accuse her of hiding it.

She starts looking over the board to note people of interest.  Is it giving Valia and Victoria credit for the riot?  And the Queen is what you’d expect from a person of legendary power who works with 3 archmages.

Permalink Mark Unread

Huh, is she getting credit for Myrtle? Fair enough.

Permalink Mark Unread

If pirates didn't want to get cut down they should not be pirates, that's all he has to say about it.

Permalink Mark Unread

These numbers are wrong. Kicharchu is a scavenger, not a predator.

Permalink Mark Unread

3/0/0? ...Fuck, babies count after all. He was pretty sure that was a lie to make Good feel better about itself.

Also, why is GORUM interfering with the convention? Does Gorum enjoy Galt-style riots and blood in the streets? ...Probably, yes. Maybe he should leave.

Permalink Mark Unread

Literally most of that number is people who were attacking the manor and killed his nephew and servants. Usually he just shoots bulettes and owlbears and things like that.

Permalink Mark Unread

Maybe the 0/0/0 will make people stop acting so weird around the holy symbol. Probably not though.

Permalink Mark Unread

He would really have expected to rank higher on this chart, what with the situation with Galè, but apparently the other delegates have killed a lot more people than he thought. Hopefully people will be too distracted by all the people ahead of him to decide they aren't willing to work with him over it.

Permalink Mark Unread

He starts at the bottom, and it still takes him a while to find his name; turns out the 0/0/0s were sorted alphabetically.

Permalink Mark Unread

1/1/17

Well, fair enough, she didn’t directly participate in the fighting at Pezzack but she did do some support casting; if anything she would have expected her assists to be higher.

Next question: how the fuck are the Queen’s assists that high. Liushna hadn’t been specifically aware that numbers went that high before.

(So many dead, and how many ever returned…?)

Permalink Mark Unread

103 / 0 / 9381 is... really quite a lot more than he was expecting. How broadly does Gorum define assists? Did he get all of this from that time he sabotaged the Druma supply chain?

Also he would really like to know what the Queen did.

Permalink Mark Unread

1298/2/6189?

... It's a fair cop.

Permalink Mark Unread

140/0/44781 informs hin that Gorum counts every death in every battle in which your personal cavalry company served as the tip of the spear to break enemy morale as an assist, or at least every death after they broke. Useful information, that.

Permalink Mark Unread

Four kills. Zero deaths. Eight assists.

(She hadn't actually been sure how many people she'd personally killed. It was hard to know if it was her magic or her companions' blades that struck down any individual person.)

...Why is it eight assists? The lord and his family is nine, less the two she killed personally, so it should be seven. Who is she missing... oh.

Apparently Gorum, God of War, is giving her partial "credit" for the slave who got tortured to death in her place. Which makes some amount of sense when she thinks about it, just... it was innocent, it straightforwardly didn't deserve what happened to it, she didn't — she didn't want it dead —

She is not going to start crying in the convention hall, that would just be pathetic, but she is absolutely not managing to hide that she's upset.

Permalink Mark Unread

0/0/4. She guesses she's... been a witness whose testimony led to some executions, working in her father's court? Does that count?

Permalink Mark Unread

1/0/0. Apparently it doesn't count if your child gets sick and dies. (Is the Queen going to round up everyone with a positive number? The scary wizard lady said she'd be safe but she knows they executed some delegates for murder.)

Permalink Mark Unread

This is farcical. He has defended his and others' property with lethal force and that is not a category usefully combined with murder OR adventuring.

Permalink Mark Unread

It's hard to see the scoreboard from a Final Blade.

Permalink Mark Unread

Being near the top of the sortitions isn’t that bad. He’s even above a few nobles, though none of the important ones.

As for the queen, she has so many assists that he doesn’t know there are numbers that high. But he does know that she really needs to catch up on kills. If Iker was queen and losing to a druid, he’d abdicate just out of shame.

Permalink Mark Unread

(OH, RIGHT, SOME OF THE WARRIORS HAVE ALREADY BEEN DEFEATED.

HERE YOU GO, BUDDY, HERE'S YOUR SCORE IN THE FINAL BLADE. GORUM RESPECTS YOUR INITIATIVE.)

Permalink Mark Unread

Damn. More of them got away than he thought.

...this is a scheme by Norgorber and should probably be assumed to be using whatever counting methods amuse him rather than ones which accurately reflect anything at all.

It's nice to have extremely dubious confirmation that nobody who was at school with her, like, later died of their injuries she should have prevented by pulling her strikes more, or anything.

What is up with Delegate Balcells's count? Nobody else has question marks.

Permalink Mark Unread

Liushna doesn’t know whether she should be more concerned by the fact of the question marks or the number of them but. Hm. Either way she’s concerned.

Permalink Mark Unread

Enric isn’t surprised by his numbers.

Look, what did you think ‘instead of using the court in town, we usually solve things ourselves’ means? Usually it’s sitting both sides down and having an elder mediate. Occasionally it’s an assembly of every man in the village, bring an axe or pitchfork or hunting bow, and by the end of the day, the problem is dealt with.

Permalink Mark Unread

24/0/42

That's all right. Those people she killed, they were all bad. She's a little bit concerned about the assists, though.

Permalink Mark Unread

1-1-6 is not quite what he was expecting. Sure, the gang sometimes got rough with people, but he doesn't think he killed anyone. Maybe it was during the night that he doesn't remember?

(Albert has forgotten that his earliest years were under the care of his aunt, not his mother, and why that was the case.)

Permalink Mark Unread

She’s not at the top of the partitioned delegates - in fact, she’s apparently behind Iker of all people - but there were more assists than she expected. Is Gorum counting people who got executed for cowardice because they ran away from her? That still doesn’t explain all of it, though.

Permalink Mark Unread

1/0/2

That’s his master, the Asmodean cleric they threw down that well, and… who is he missing?

Permalink Mark Unread

0/0/89

Huh, she would have actually expected it to be higher? But she's not sure where Gorum is drawing the line on the assists, like when she used her warsong to support some archers and then they drove the soldiers into an ambush by another group with swords - that might not all have been enough to count. Or maybe the evidence she forged that got that officer reassigned to a shit position and he died a few months later isn't counting, there were a few things like that. She's not sure how to feel about it.

What the--he's never--

Wait, is this thing counting slips? That's not fair!

Permalink Mark Unread

43/1/1173

The soul trap counts as death by Gorum's rules, apparently. The others were both... higher than she expected. But not by that much. Executions and crackdowns have a cost in lives, and she thought they were slightly lower but not hugely. Forty-three minus the nobles she ordered executed and replaced makes nineteen who would have lived if she hadn't identified them for being hunted.

May it never rise again.

There are few powers in Creation with the power to hide their kill counts from Gorum, and only one who would be attending the Chelish constitutional convention.

He doesn't Plane Shift to Axis in a panic, mostly because if Mephistopheles were going to personally drag him to Hell, He would have done it a long time ago.
