Edie is not happy.

"Yes, I know he leaves when I tell him to, but he leaves in a sexually harassing way!"

"He leaves - that is to say, he leaves you alone - in a sexually harassing way?" says the administrator skeptically.

"I tell him to go away, and he says 'Yes, Mistress,' in the most leering way possible, and then he comes back! No matter how many times I tell him not to! He will leave temporarily, he will not leave me alone."

"Perhaps you could try telling him to leave silently."

"My telepathy does not yet work on non-twin targets--oh. You mean tell him to 'leave silently' not 'tell him to leave' silently. That doesn't sound like it would solve the problem where he keeps coming back, can you seriously do nothing about your students sexually harassing each other?"

"If he's threatening you we can do something but, really, it sounds like you just don't like the way he sits. We can't initiate a disciplinary action because you don't like the way he sits, imagine how ridiculous that would get."

He's standing in the doorway to the room holding a stack of papers and listening with evident concern.

"He's groveling at me. If I started looming over subs at every available opportunity would you do nothing about that, too, I figured you were just operating off a model where subs can't actually meaningfully harass doms, are you saying you'd be equally unhelpful in the opposite direction too?"

"Unwelcome looming doms are threatening," the administrator says. "And if they told you to go away, and you did, that still wouldn't be a good reason to drag you in."

"And if I proceeded to do it again and again?"

"Then it would seem threatening enough to be a problem. He's sitting, in a public place, and leaving when told."

"He's kneeling in my personal space! He doesn't need to be threatening to do more than he is, he's sexually. Harassing. Me! Do I have to bring in literature so that I can explain to you that it is possible for a sub to sexually harass a dom?"

"Now, now, I'm not saying that's impossible."

"No? I come to you saying I am being sexually harassed, you say no you're not, you may not say explicitly you don't think it's possible in general but I sure as hell don't know under what conditions you'd help me."

"If you came to me and said, 'I'm being sexually harassed, the sub opposite me in class sits with his knees too far apart', I would tell you that you weren't, because not everything students say is always true, even if they think it is. If you don't like how someone sits, that's not harassment."

"–oh, come on."

Random doorframe sub approaches.

"--Sorry, who're you?"

"Who cares? Knees too far apart, are you serious?"

"You aren't involved in this complaint. Is there something else you need help with?"

He stands there for a moment, then mutters some kind of apology and goes to put his paper on the desk.

"You know, when a random uninvolved individual overhears our conversation and immediately not only deduces that you're in the wrong but considers it important enough to says so, that might say something."

"If the random uninvolved individual is ever the provost, that might matter. You're dismissed."

"Fine," she says. "But since you've so helpfully explained that it doesn't count as not leaving if you come back later, you can bet anything that I will." And then she turns on her heel and stalks out.

Once she's out of the office she looks around for Helpful Interloper.

Helpful interloper is loitering on a bench watching a squirrel.

"Hi. Thanks for trying to help."

"Oh. Uh, hi. No problem."

He pulls his feet up onto the bench.

"At least he was an equal-opportunity asshole, I guess."
