early bird customers
coffee is the only redeeming quality of cities

Le Café Isarn allegedly has coffee, but how are its hours of operation? Does it provide for customers at the absurd hour of 'just after dawn'? Inquiring people carrying coins want to know.

He has a ring, so yes!

"Welcome, Citizen Elf. Here for the convention?"

"Coffee, actually, but sure, the convention's why I'm in the city," she clinks down several silver coins onto the nearest table. "Can this number of shiny coins get me a coffee."

Permalink Mark Unread

"And more." He'll bring her coffee and her change. "Are you a delegate?"

She gives an affirmative grunt before downing the entire cup in one long series of efficient swallows like a dehydrated man might drink water. It's piping hot, of course, but her Endure Elements from yesterday is still up. It counts for hot drinks.

"... Can they pay for a second?" she asks, neatly setting the empty cup back on the table.

"Yes."

Permalink Mark Unread

"Great. I would like a second, then."

This one is getting the same treatment as the last.

"So, where are you from, Citizen Delegate?" He's heard there's a druid from the Whisperwood, but that was supposed to be an elf, and the female druid's supposed to be from Kintargo Forest.

Ugh. Small talk. Thanks, she hates it.

"Barrowood. If I leave these coins here with you will give me the equivalent coffee later if I ask?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Certainly."

Okay, then he will leave her to not have small talk.

Aw!! Look!! He can take a hint!! Between this and the coffee, she decides she likes him.

"I'm going to drop a Plant Growth before the convention," she says, after a minor pause of watching how he's not making her small talk. "Do you have preferences about which bit of farmland I aim it at?"

Permalink Mark Unread

"Not particularly. Good patch a half-mile out the west gate, got strawberries." That's the direction there's most smallholders and fewer lords in.

She considers if she can squeeze this in between now, connecting with nature to regain her druidic powers, and the convention, then nods.

"Sure. Thanks."

Then she turns into a bird (blackbird, again) and flies off.
