priests of iomedae know about fighting evil, right?

Enric wanders around after the committees, trying to remember everything they talked about. He’s holding a bundle of papers he cannot really read. Replaying the events of the day, he realizes he still needs answers on something.

He sees a cleric with a holy symbol he recognizes. “A priest cleric of Iomedae, right? I have a fighting evil question I need to ask.”

"- yes, I'm a cleric of Iomedae. Though you should know that we've none of us had access to all the training that would be ideal."

“Oh.”

”Can I still ask you about things you ask a cleric about?” Now that there’s good clerics you ask about things not just evil clerics you never willingly talk to. “Or are you not ready yet?”

"I can do my best, which I suppose is all anyone can do. But I am due on a route to refill water cisterns in some of the abandoned chapels through the city, will you walk with me?"

Permalink Mark Unread

“Of course.”

Should have known the cleric was busy. Enric is used to always having something to do on his farm or helping a neighbor, but it doesn’t feel like that in the city. There isn’t an obvious sense of work to be done.

Walking and talking. “So this morning, you remember the fight in the main room where they said that delegate Theopho was a diabolist?”

"I do, yes."

“I need to know, is this Erecura an evil god? Because Theopho is standing up for the sortition delegates and helping get rights for everyone, so I want to support him. But if it’s all a plan to serve na evil god, I need to stay away even if it seems like a good idea?”

"Erecura is Lawful Neutral. She lives in Hell, and is married to Dispater. I am - not personally inclined to put a lot of stock in where gods choose to dwell. Calistria in Elysium, Norgorber in Axis, and so on. But someone who is Lawful Neutral can... can lean one way or the other, and I think the information I have suggests that She may lean Evil."

The good gods committee had an argument about Norborger living in Axis. He needs to tell them. Maybe tell other people too, if other committees had the same confusion.

”When you say she might lean evil, is it just in the way that sometimes happens from living in a bad place and marrying a bad husband? Or is it the kind where I shouldn’t trust her or any of her clerics?”

"If I were forced to wager on it, I would guess the former. She's Lawful Neutral, and moreover her cleric is Lawful Neutral in the ordinary human way, such that he can - I am given to understand - channel positive energy just as I can."

Enric nods. "A wager from a priest of Iomedae is better than just my wager, I say." Presumably they're using wager as an expression. Good clerics wouldn't actually gamble, right?

"Oh, actually, you doing any channels today or tomorrow where I could see? Don't mean to offend or make accusations, just have to trust the person I'm asking advice on who to trust."

"Yes, my next slot is at thirteenth bell."

Enric nods. "Thank you, I'll see you then. Good be with you?"

"Iomedae keep you."
