"You will definitely win Nat over with photography. She does a good job of hiding how vain she is, doesn't she?" Anders says with a grin.

"What brings you to this school? We haven't seen you before," Eden asks, curiousity always having been her biggest flaw.

"I was homeschooled! My cousin and I recently were able to convince my dad to let me attend high school. So here I am."

"Homeschooled? Why?" Eden asks, leaning closer.

Lorie stomps on her foot, glaring at her.

"I have a mood disorder that I had a hard time managing as a kid. Thus: homeschool."

Anders' grin slips off his face, replaced by sadness. He knows what that is like. Sometimes Father Irving at the grouphome doesn't want him to go to school, emotions heightened as they can be,

Anders slides off the table and sits next to Juliet, taking Nat's vacated spot. He would throw an arm around her, but he's learned to make sure people are okay with touching before he goes for it.

"I'm sorry to hear that, though I'm very glad you're here now. We need an artistic type to round out the group," Eden says. She doesn't want Juliet to talk about something she might be uncomfortable with, curiousity be damned.

Lorie, glad that Eden was no longer probing the new girl, latches onto the new conversation. "You're a photographer! That's so cool. Got any good photos?"

Juliet smiles at Anders and answers Lorie.

"I have thousands of photos. I've been at it since I was eight. I could show you my portfolio some time? Mightn't be much to your taste though, I'm into the creepy and morbid."

"Oh, creepy and morbid is my absolute jam. You've come to the right girl!"

"Oh no, there's two of them!" Eden smiles.

"I'll bring it to school tomorrow," she says, pleased. "So what sort of things are there to do here? At this school, I mean. Not just life in general."

“Well, there’s the debate team. Flo and I are on it.”

“Or you could not be boring and join the swim team?” Lorie says, rolling her eyes at Eden.

“Or you could be even cooler than that and just do nothing. Like me! I spend free period pretending to smoke under the bleachers.”

"Pretend? That's a subversion. Very rebellious. I do love swimming though and I'm good at it too."

To Edan: "I wouldn't do well in a debate, I think. It would probably get me too emotional. I don't have a clear head for those sorts of things. Plus my answer to a debate is to flirt with them until they chilled out. Probably frowned upon?"

“It’d be an interesting technique, to say the least.”

“Swimming it is! We’re meeting after school tonight, you wanna come along?”

Flo returns with a tray and drops down next to his sister, immediately tearing into his lunch with aplomb.

"Tonight's no good. Starting highschool was a big enough step that my dad is a nervous overprotective wreck. I should go home..."

“A little rebellion is healthy! Every teen movie from the 80’s says so,” Anders says with a hearty wink.

“Maybe just stay for a bit? Just to get a feel for it. And swimming is hardly rebellion.” Lorie rolls her eyes at Anders.

“Not with that attitude.”

"Okay, you've convinced me. He can sweat a little. Probably good training for later."
