This calls for an experimental hail of kisses all over her face.

Jeanne turns pinker and pinker and finally breaks down into slightly hysterical giggles.

"Awwwww."

"I can't believe you're not -- married."

"What? Why would I be married?"

"...you're smart and beautiful and nice and funny and beautiful -- I know I already said beautiful it was worth saying twice -- and dashing and heroic and patient and you sing and swordfight and fly pterodactyls and rescue maidens and act."

"This is paradise. Everyone can develop their interests and qualities and nobody is in a hurry to get married because we are all eternally youthful unless we are into looking wizened."

"--if I were in paradise I'd be in a hurry to marry you. So no one else could do it first. Unless you're the kind who collects, I guess, then I'd just be in a hurry so you'd be stuck with me."

"Not, ah, that I'm going to marry you. Or you're going to marry me. Or -- it was an analogy."

"My only other girlfriend is Cory and I have explained to you that she might outgrow me! It would be silly to get married."

"I don't know why you don't have lots! Everyone here is supposed to be really smart and they have had years and years to notice that you're the best."

(Maybe Tarinda is just really picky, but Jeanne is not thinking about that. Not that it matters, obviously, in any case she doesn't--

-- not thinking about it.)

"I like girls who I have rescued."

"Oh."

She contemplates this.

(There probably aren't many people to rescue, here. It must be hard. Maybe she can find Tarinda someone really wonderful to rescue.)

"That makes sense. I hope Cory doesn't outgrow you soon, then."

"Jeanne."

"Unless it would be, ah. Emotionally healthy? For her to outgrow you sooner? And then I hope she does because you said it was okay and you love her and want good things to happen to her?"

"Nicely reasoned but that's not where I was going with that."

Aaaaa no one warned her there was going to be a pop quiz -- where is Zari usually going with things --

"...and if I make a plan to find a smart pretty girl who's good at swordfighting and singing and acting and flying pterodactyls and making people really really happy and needs rescuing and arrange for her to need more dramatic rescuing in a way you can do and then for you to find out about her ... I won't actually do that without asking you first?"

"Thank you, Jeanne."

Damn. Why does she promise these things.

"...you're welcome?"

"I assure you," she continues, "that if I want to rescue someone I am more than capable of inviting my friend the recreationally sinister Lord of Lesser Ophir to kidnap her for my convenience."

"Oh. Okay."

She can't do nice things for Tarinda at all and it's terrible.

"...can I still find you people and you can look at the profiles and see if you want him to kidnap any of them?"

"No, Jeanne."

"Okay."

(She knew she shouldn't have cried and ruined the party -- she should have had her spirit guide on during the kidnapping so it could cue her, she probably did a terrible job -- she should be a better actor -- Tarinda has finally given up and is getting rid of her--)

Tarinda is snuggling her.

....oh, right, she probably hasn't had the prescribed amount of people yet after the time in space. Tarinda is good and responsible at her job and will not get rid of her until that's finished.

Jeanne wishes she knew how much people you are supposed to do after being alone for a while.

Snuggle snuggle snuggle.

Tarinda starts murmuring quietly, tunefully, something in a language neither French nor English.
